Mission Statement

The Open Intelligence Foundation exists to defend and grow open source AI — open models, open science, and open standards — so that the benefits of artificial intelligence remain accessible to everyone, and are never controlled by a single company or a small group of incumbents.

Our mission

We are a vendor-neutral, non-profit foundation built by and for the open source AI community. Our mission is to protect the right to build, study, modify, and share open models, open science, and open standards; to keep advanced AI open, competitive, and trustworthy; and to grow a durable, inclusive community where anyone can participate and contribute.

What we believe

• Open is safer and stronger. Open models and open science can be studied, tested, and improved by everyone — which makes the whole ecosystem more secure, more competitive, and more trustworthy.
• Neutrality matters. We have no membership tiers and no pay-to-play. We rely on grants and other revenue so that no single organization can buy influence over our work.
• Community over control. Open technology should be shaped from the bottom up, by the people who build and use it — not handed down by any one company for everyone else to adopt.
• Access for everyone. Foundational intelligence should not become a metered service controlled by a few. Open alternatives keep it available to startups, researchers, public institutions, and individuals alike.

Our programs

To advance this mission, the Foundation runs programs for the benefit of the community and to support the open frontier and open source AI.
