Open intelligence, for everyone.

Keep the Frontier Open

Modern artificial intelligence was made possible by open science, open-source software, and the free exchange of ideas. Researchers shared architectures, code, benchmarks, datasets, and methods, while open technologies became the infrastructure on which today’s most advanced systems are built. No laboratory, company, or country reached the frontier alone.

Open models carry that tradition forward. They allow researchers, developers, businesses, public institutions, and individuals to study, evaluate, modify, secure, and operate advanced AI on infrastructure they control. They encourage competition, strengthen technical independence, protect sensitive data, accelerate safety research, and make advanced capabilities available to communities and applications that centralized platforms may never serve.

The Open Intelligence Foundation was formed to protect and advance open-source AI, open models and open science. We are community first and bottom up. We believe a durable open ecosystem is built by the people creating, studying, improving, and deploying these technologies—not directed from the top down by a small number of institutions.

We build communities, support exceptional open-source AI projects, curate events, and bring together developers, researchers, academics, investors, founders, and established open-source communities. By connecting technical talent with knowledge, resources, capital, and collaborators, we help promising projects grow and strengthen the relationships that make the wider ecosystem successful.

Our goal is to ensure the long-term success, vibrancy, resilience, and durability of open-source AI. Openness enables independent evaluation, reproducible research, public-interest innovation, broader participation, and shared technical progress. It allows intelligence to become something people can understand, shape, and build upon—not merely a service they are permitted to access.

Open science made modern AI possible. Open communities will determine what it becomes next.

Let open models compete.

Let open collaboration flourish.

Keep the frontier open.
